Noaz Ark Misson Statement |
| The NOAZ ARK Foundation (National Organization to Abolish Zoos) is dedicated to providing the general public with information about the welfare of animals in zoos. Through our efforts, NOAZ ARK hopes to facilitate an end to this institution which relegates innocent creatures to a lifetime of confinement. |
Noaz Ark Philosophy |
| NOAZ ARK believes that zoos are unethical and obsolete institutions that deliberately exaggerate their educational value and discount the suffering they impose on animals in their care. By supporting zoos, society condones the imprisonment of animals in exchange for entertainment and profit. Preserving natural habitats and animal welfare will be the priority -- not entertainment. |
Our Vision |
| It is our belief that, in the near future, zoos will no longer exist. At that time,
the flow of animals into zoos will cease. The entrance gates will be locked. Animals will
no longer be on display for the entertainment of the general public. During this transition period, zoos will have one simple task to care for all the animals that are unable to adapt to life in the wild. Zoos will be monitored to ensure that they provide the best possible living conditions for these animals. All efforts will be redirected to the repatriation of as many imprisoned animals as possible. Without zoos, emphasis will be put on proper research facilities for the study of wild animals. It will no longer be necessary to transport animals thousands of miles to zoos in crowded, metropolitan areas. Money which was formerly used to maintain captive animals will be channeled to establish animal research facilities near rural habitats, and to fund animal research programs in accredited universities. Because these funds will be used for a specific purpose, it will be easier for the results of each program to be assessed. Alternatives to zoos do exist. Technology now affords us the opportunity to safely observe and study animals in the wild. These resources include films, documentaries, IMAX productions and the Internet. In addition, the prospect of virtual reality will provide accurate representations of animals in the wild. The technology will allow us to view every animal, including extinct species, in their natural habitat, whether they live in a tree or a cave. All of these alternatives teach us about wildlife without confining a living species.
